HEVs are powered by an internal combustion engine and by an electric motor that uses energy stored in a battery. The battery is charged through regenerative braking and by the internal combustion engine.

In hybrid drive cycles, the engine doesn’t run as often.This is good for the much-desired gas mileage. But without the crankcase heating up, more fuel and water diliute the oil. And when the fuel doesn’t get used quickly enough, it starts to oxidize and corrode system components.
